  • ABOUT HER INITIATIVE

Her Initiative is an organization that reframes the value of girls and shapes the new norms that break the cycle of poverty and create financial resilience among adolescent girls and young women in Tanzania in order to achieve gender equality and inclusive economic growth. Her initiative works with girls aged 13 to 35 both in school and out of school. Her initiative is a registered organization with the registration number 00NGO/08687.

Her Initiative creates a ‘new normal for girls; a world in which girls are not held back from reaching their full potential, either by themselves, their families, their communities or by their financial status. Most problems that affect young women and girls are in one way or the other influenced by poverty and are amplified by financial dependence.

  • Role and Purpose

The volunteers are expected to support daily activities as assigned by their department managers. These departments include Finance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Communications, and Partnership and Resource mobilization.

  • Management

The volunteer will be line managed by the Head of each department who will be responsible for work plan reviews and appraisals. Other team members in the respective departments shall act as task managers and will be responsible for overseeing the performance of the individual tasks assigned. The volunteer will be required to come to the office 2 days a week.

  • Volunteering Details

The positions are unpaid, however, we will reimburse actual travel costs to and from your home to our offices (within Dar es Salaam). Volunteer opportunities are not a prelude to paid employment with the organization. If opportunities for paid employment arise, these will be advertised and volunteers who apply will be considered against the same criteria as other applicants.

  •  Duration

The volunteering positions will be for a 6-month term

  • Enrollment

Candidates who are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree are eligible to apply. Candidates who have obtained a bachelor’s degree and are currently enrolled in other academic programs are also eligible; Have completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree, if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages.

  • Skills

Proficiency in English and Kiswahili;

Computer literate in standard software applications, e.g. Microsoft Offices, Web Browsers, etc.

Demonstrable knowledge of and interest in the work of Her Initiative in the applied role.
