April was a month of growth, reflection, and action for the Mshiko Clubs as we deepened our commitment to empowering students through financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Across our partner schools, significant steps were taken to ensure sustainability, build capacity, and nurture a culture of ownership among the youth we work with.

One of the most impactful developments this month was the successful opening of savings accounts for three Mshiko Club schools: Kiluvya Secondary School, Dar es Salaam Girls Secondary School, and Saranga Secondary School, in partnership with NMB Bank. These accounts are more than just a place to keep money; they serve as a practical learning platform. Students can now save income generated through their club-based projects while gaining real-world experience in financial management. To ensure safety and sustainability, the accounts are overseen by teachers, providing structured guidance and accountability. This move is already helping clubs strengthen their financial planning and decision-making as they prepare to reinvest in addressing challenges within their schools. The process will be finalized in May with the remaining two schools.

In the spirit of growth and continuity, we also visited King’ongo Secondary School to engage with the school leadership following the untimely passing of Madam Lilian, the club's beloved patron. Her loss has been deeply felt, but the school is moving forward with the process of identifying a new teacher who will step into this mentorship role. The administration expressed their continued commitment to the Mshiko Club, and we remain ready to support the transition once the new patron is in place.

As a way to do so, preparations are underway for one of the most exciting events on our calendar: the Mshiko Bonanza. This month, we began forming the organizing committee and laying the foundation for what promises to be an unforgettable event. The bonanza will bring together all five participating schools in a showcase of student-led businesses and innovations. It will also serve as a platform for students to connect with various stakeholders and partners, and include an award ceremony to celebrate excellence and creativity within the clubs.

To further support student growth, we finalized a schedule for our Her initiative project staff to conduct agency empowerment training sessions across all five schools. Delivered by expert facilitators, these sessions focus on building self-awareness, confidence, leadership, and entrepreneurial thinking among students. The aim is to equip them with the tools to lead change, both within and beyond their school environments.

As we reflect on April, we’re inspired by the resilience, creativity, and commitment of every student, teacher, and partner involved in the Mshiko Clubs. Each milestone from financial empowerment to strategic event planning is a step forward in our mission to raise a generation of confident, capable, and visionary youth.
