When young people thrive, their families and communities thrive with them. This month, the Going Beyond Project made important strides in strengthening the skills of youth and the environments that surround them.

In both Morogoro and Dar es Salaam, we organized family engagement meetings with parents, guardians, and partners. These gatherings created an open space to explain what the program is about, the digital business and entrepreneurship skills youth are gaining, and why family encouragement is crucial for their success.

For many parents, this was their first time seeing how digital business skills could translate into real income opportunities and greater confidence for their children. Their curiosity and thoughtful questions about progress fostered a sense of accountability within a supportive family setting.

Alongside family forums, the project also placed a strong focus on safeguarding. Our safeguarding officer, Celine Julius, visited several host organizations to assess safety measures and provide guidance. Hosts who had not yet developed safeguarding policies earlier this year have now drafted them, while newly onboarded hosts received templates and direction to put theirs in place.

Celine’s visits also emphasized practical but vital aspects of safety, such as ensuring childcare arrangements are reliable and nurturing. By checking that responsible nannies and suitable spaces for children are available during sessions, mothers are able to learn with peace of mind, knowing their children are well cared for. These small but significant steps ensure that no one is excluded from participating.

Looking ahead, the Going Beyond Project will continue to mobilize resources for host organizations, keep family forums active so that support from home remains strong, and finalize safeguarding materials across all hosts.
