The Her Initiative team recently welcomed the Flaviana Matata Foundation to our offices for a knowledge-sharing and learning exchange centered around economic empowerment programs. It was a warm, open place where two teams committed to the same mission, sitting around one table and openly reflecting on the work we do for young women and girls.

What made this session valuable was not just the information exchanged, but how we exchanged it. Her Initiative shared insights drawn from years of working directly with girls, how we mobilize effectively at community level, how we build partnerships that last, and how our programs are shaped with beneficiaries rather than for them. These conversations opened room to reflect on strategies that encourage participation, ownership, and sustainability in empowerment work.

At the same time, the Flaviana Matata Foundation team brought forward meaningful experiences from their own journey, field realities, lessons from working with young women across different backgrounds, and reflections that added depth to every topic we unpacked. Their perspectives challenged us to think wider, ask new questions, and consider future possibilities beyond what we already practice.
It felt more like two organizations aligning thought, sharpening approach, and learning through honest conversation.
Together, we explored practical ways to elevate economic empowerment from co-creation with young women, to refining program design, to identifying partnership models that accelerate impact. There were moments of clarity, shared understanding, and even gentle challenge, the kind that stretches thinking rather than replacing it.
By the end of the day, two collaborators, each walking away with something to take forward. We left feeling inspired, affirmed, and reminded that real progress is built not in isolation, but through connection, exchange, and collective strength.

We are grateful for this engagement, and excited for what conversations like this unlock. There is more to explore, more to learn, and more to build and it feels encouraging knowing we are walking this journey with others who are just as committed to young women’s empowerment as we are.
