Her Initiative team embarked on a powerful and inspiring visit to Kisarawe District, one of the key areas where our flagship program, Plan B, is being implemented. The purpose of this visit was twofold: to strengthen our collaboration with government offices, and to reconnect with past beneficiaries whose stories continue to inspire our mission.

Plan B is more than a project, it is a movement aimed at transforming the economic futures of out-of-school girls, empowering them with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to lead financially independent lives. At its core, the program challenges the notion that girls outside of formal education are “left behind,” and instead, positions them as powerful agents of change in their families and communities.
Strengthening Local Partnerships
During the visit, we held meaningful conversations with local government representatives, discussing the shared vision of enabling adolescent girls to access alternative pathways to economic empowerment. The support and recognition from local authorities continue to play a crucial role in creating safe spaces where girls can learn, grow, and build sustainable livelihoods.
We left the meeting more affirmed than ever: community-led change thrives when government and grassroots actors work hand in hand.
Spotlight on Success: Neema’s Story
One of the most heartwarming moments of our Kisarawe visit was reuniting with Neema, a graduate of Plan B’s earlier phase. Like many girls in her community, Neema had dropped out of school and found herself facing an uncertain future. But through Plan B, she received entrepreneurship training, financial literacy skills, and start-up support to bring her business idea to life.
Today, Neema is the proud owner of a small, thriving business, a result of her determination and the resources made available through the program. Meeting her again, this time as a confident young entrepreneur, was a beautiful reminder of what happens when girls are trusted, supported, and equipped to take control of their future.

“Plan B changed my life,” Neema shared. “Before, I was not doing much to better myself. Now, I run my own business and support myself.”
Her story is one of many. It proves that with the right push and platform, every girl has the potential to rise.
A Broader Impact
The visit to Kisarawe is part of our ongoing efforts to stay grounded in the lived experiences of the communities we serve. It reminds us that while our strategies are built in boardrooms, the real work happens on the ground. in homes, in markets, and in the lives of girls like Neema.
As Plan B continues to grow, we remain committed to creating opportunities for girls beyond the classroom. Education is important, but so is ensuring that girls who are out of school still have access to dignity, purpose, and economic freedom.
Every girl deserves a Plan B not as a backup plan, but as a bold new beginning.
