In a concerted effort to make support services more accessible to young female entrepreneurs facing sexual corruption in Tanzania, Her Initiative has expanded its existing Ongea Hub online platform with a new SMS integration. This innovative extension represents a crucial step forward in ensuring that girls with limited internet access or smartphones can still access vital assistance and resources.

The launch of the SMS platform builds upon the foundation laid by the existing Ongea Hub online platform within Panda Digital. By integrating SMS functionality, Her Initiative is bridging the digital divide and reaching girls who may not have regular access to the internet or smartphones. This inclusive approach ensures that every girl, regardless of her circumstances, can report instances of sexual corruption and connect with support services.

During the Launching Director of Her Initiative, Ms. Lydia Charles, highlights the importance of extending Ongea Hub with SMS integration: “Our goal with Ongea Hub has always been to provide a safe and accessible space for girls to seek assistance. By integrating SMS functionality, we are removing barriers and ensuring that no girl is left behind. Whether they have access to the internet or not, every girl deserves the opportunity to speak out and receive support.”

The SMS integration is an extension of the comprehensive support services already offered through Ongea Hub online. Girls can now report cases of sexual corruption, specify the type of assistance they require, and connect with authorities offering legal, psychological, social, and emotional support—all through simple SMS messages. This streamlined process ensures that girls can access help quickly and confidentially, without fear of stigma or reprisal.Beneficiary Mary Abel shares her perspective on the significance of the SMS integration: “For girls like me who may not have smartphones or regular internet access, the SMS platform is a game-changer. It gives us a voice and the ability to seek help discreetly, no matter where we are. With Ongea Hub’s SMS integration, we can break the silence on sexual corruption and work towards a safer future for all girls.”

To access Ongea Hub through SMS, individuals can simply send the word “SAJILI” to the designated number. This initiates the registration process, allowing girls to report incidents of sexual corruption and request assistance as needed. All submissions made through the SMS platform are treated with the utmost confidentiality and respect for privacy.

As Her Initiative continues to expand its reach and impact, the integration of SMS functionality into Ongea Hub stands as evidence to its commitment to empowering young women across Tanzania. By leveraging digital technology to bridge divides and amplify voices, Her Initiative is creating the way for a more inclusive and equitable society.
