Overview of Her Initiative

Her Initiative is a Tanzanian NGO dedicated to empowering young women and girls through education, economic empowerment, and advocacy against gender-based violence (GBV). Established to address gender disparities, the organization offers programs designed to build skills, foster entrepreneurship, and provide leadership opportunities. Her Initiative focuses on creating a supportive environment where women can flourish, promoting gender equality and socio-economic development in their communities. The NGO collaborates with local and international partners to deliver impactful projects that improve the lives of women and girls, ensuring they have the resources and support needed to succeed. Through mentorship, workshops, and advocacy, Her Initiative strives to equip women with the tools to become change-makers in their communities. The mission of Her Initiative is to empower women and girls to achieve their full potential through education, economic opportunities, and advocacy for their rights.

About the role

As a board member of Her Initiative, you will play a crucial role in guiding the organization towards achieving its mission. This position is ideal for passionate individuals who are committed to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Board members are expected to bring their expertise, leadership, and advocacy skills to the table, ensuring that the organization continues to grow and make a positive impact. By joining the board, you will have the opportunity to influence strategic decisions, support program development, and amplify the voices of women and girls in Tanzania. This is a volunteer role that requires dedication, vision, and a genuine commitment to making a difference.

Criteria for Board Membership

  • Female candidates aged between 18-35 years.
  • Proven track record of leadership and advocacy in women’s empowerment.
  • Experience working with young girls and women in economic empowerment, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and GBV.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to commit to a three-year term.
  • Passionate about gender equality and the mission of Her Initiative.
  • Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings and organizational events.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the organization’s activities and programs.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts and identify potential funding sources.
  • Advocate for Her Initiative’s mission and represent the organization at various forums.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and programs.
  • Ensure that the organization operates within the legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to the organization's staff and volunteers.
  • Commit to upholding the values and goals of Her Initiative.
