This Is What Partnership Looks Like: Belgium Meets Tanzania on the Frontlines of Women’s Economic Empowerment
Not all partnerships make it to the ground. Some remain ideas, others, mere headlines. This is not the case for the collaboration between Belgium and Tanzania through Enabel, the AWA Prize, and the Wezesha Binti Project is as real as it gets. And its impact? Measurable, personal, and deeply human.
At Her Initiative, we believe in building change with people, not for them. That is why this past month felt so powerful.

From Kigoma With Purpose: 40 Women, 1 Mission
Our Impact Officer, Nusura Myonga, travelled to Kigoma, where 40 young women entrepreneurs gathered with one goal: to grow their businesses in a world that is moving fast and ever changing through technological advancement.
But this was not a sit-and-listen kind of training. It was hands-on, real-world, and deeply responsive to what these women face every day: limited digital access, barriers to market visibility, and the ongoing challenge of turning potential into profit.
Using Panda Digital, a platform tailored to connect women with digital tools, markets, and networks, these sessions gave more than information. They gave access, confidence, and clarity.

One participant said,
“I’ve always had something to sell. What I didn’t have was a way to show it to the world. Now, I do.”
That is what transformation looks like—not just in numbers, but in lives.
Closing the Circle in Dar es Salaam: A Conversation About the Cities We Deserve
The journey did not end in Kigoma.
Back in Dar es Salaam, Her Initiative joined a powerful panel exploring the role of women in building inclusive, green, and smart cities. This was more than a token conversation. It was a bold, honest exchange about how young women are not only shaping businesses, but also the very systems and cities that will define our future.

We shared what we have learned: that when women have access to the right tools and ecosystems, their innovations do not just lift incomes, they transform communities. They create cities that listen, grow sustainably, and work for everyone.
Why This Matters for the Bigger Picture
This partnership between Belgium and Tanzania is proof of what is possible when funding meets trust, when ideas meet action, and when young women are not seen as risks but as leaders.
It is not about training or panels. It is about building a continent where the next generation of women entrepreneurs are not waiting for opportunities. They are creating them for their benefits and others.
This work showed us what can happen when collaboration is rooted in respect, community, and shared vision. A reminder that the most powerful partnerships are the ones that listen first, and act with purpose.
To Our Partners, With Gratitude
To Enabel, to everyone behind the AWA Prize and Wezesha Binti, and to all our supporters thank you for standing with young women in Tanzania. For choosing not to parachute solutions, but to build them from within. For proving that when local meets global with humility and heart, the results go beyond business. They shape futures.
Let’s keep building. Together.
